If you take the whole picture in you see the houses. Another subtle effect is that in the foreground, it looks like it is night time, but if you look at the clouds it looks like it could just be early in the morning. Also, the shadows aren’t really correct, are they? The shadow of the houses, and the man, and the windows, and the trees are all going in different directions!
