Crown Center Redevelopment Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary
of Hallmark Cards,Inc., owns Crown Center.
Kessinger/Hunter & Company, a nationally recognized real estate
management firm with headquarters at Crown Center, manages the complex
on a day-to-day basis. Kessinger/Hunter's on-site management staff
responds to tenants' calls within 15 minutes.
Crown Center is the only mixed-use development in the Kansas City
metropolitan area to offer a proprietary security system, dedicated
to Crown Center only, and staffed by a team of security professionals. The
Crown Center Security Department is a division of The Kessinger/Hunter
Company, which provides the property management function for the
complex. With a newly upgraded, state-of-the-art security system
and a large professional security staff, Crown Center Security patrols
the Crown Center office complex, as well as the retail center, parking
garage systems, and outdoor areas including Crown Center Square.
Crown Center Security also works closely with other proprietary
security departments operating within the complex, serving Hallmark
Cards, Inc.; Halls department store; The Westin Crown Center; The Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center; and others.
The security staff includes 30 full-time uniformed officers, eight
dispatchers, and a professional security manager. Each of three
daily, eight-hour shifts is managed by a supervisor and assistant
supervisor on duty, as well as a supervisor for dispatchers. Most
security officers have a background in public, private or military
law enforcement. Recognizing the important public relations role
security officers play, Crown Center looks for those who also have
excellent skills in dealing with the public when selecting new members
of its security team. Of the 39 current department staff, eleven
have college degrees and more than a dozen have completed college
course work leading toward degrees. Turnover is low: currently employed
officers average eight years of service with Crown Center Security,
and dispatchers average ten years of service.
Assistance buttons are located throughout the complex, putting
Crown Center visitors in immediate contact with Security. Cameras
located at these areas make customers seeking assistance visible
as well as audible to security dispatchers. Elevators have two-way
communication systems with the security dispatcher for safety of
guests. While the system is reactive, a dispatcher can also control
the pan tilt and zoom type cameras from the centralized security
office. For example, the cameras are capable of zooming in and recording
something as small as the license plate on a motorcycle in the parking
garage.
We also provide a number of services to customers and guests to
the complex, including unlocking vehicles, jump-starting vehicles,
escort services as requested, and others.
Several parking options, at different pricing levels, are available
at Crown Center. Each office building has attached, covered parking.
The parking garages are monitored and patrolled by Crown Center
Security.
Both the Westin Crown Center Hotel and the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center are directly connected via covered walkways to the office buildings,
contain health clubs, with modern equipment and swimming facilities.
